WA Citizen of the Year Youth Arts Award

The Miss Maud hospitality group will join WA Opera and the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts to sponsor the prestigious 2006 Western Australian Citizen of the Year Youth Arts Award, which recognises the achievements, potential and contribution of a remarkable young Western Australian aged 18 to 25-years engaged in the pursuit of excellence in any area of the arts.

The Western Australian Citizen of the Year Awards were inaugurated in 1972 and the nine award categories are Arts, Culture & Entertainment; Community Service; Industry & Commerce; The Professions; Sport; Youth; Youth Arts; the Governor’s Award for Regional Development; and the Gold Swan Award for an outstanding service organisation.

The Governor of Western Australia His Excellency Dr Ken Michael AC will announce the award recipients at the 34th annual Awards presentation and dinner in the Grand Ballroom at Buswood Entertainment Complex on Western Australia’s Foundation Day on June 1, 2006.

Mrs Maud Edmiston, founder, managing director and namesake of the Miss Maud empire, was herself honoured with a Western Australian Citizen of the Year Industry and Commerce Award in 2001 in recognition of her commitment, innovation and contribution to Western Australia’s hospitality industry and the wider community.

Founded in 1971, The Miss Maud group has developed from the original Miss Maud Swedish Pastry Houses in City Arcade (now Carillon City) and a location on the corner of Murray and Pier Streets to become Western Australia’s most popular and recognizable hospitality name.

Miss Maud operates 17 warm and inviting pastry and coffee houses in Perth and suburban shopping Centres as well as the original Smorgasbord restaurant, an award-winning boutique hotel and a Swedish bakehouse. The group recently announced it was extending its Swedish hospitality through a carefully developed franchise program that will enable franchisers who can confidently embrace the philosophy and superior quality standards that underpin the group’s integrity to benefit from involvement with an organisation known for its tradition of success, timeless identity and unique brand of hospitality.
